How you can help

We are grateful to everyone who wants to support our work for Bromley’s homeless people with their time and their money. You can support us in the following ways:

Volunteer. We rely on volunteers to keep our service running. They come from many different backgrounds and have many different skills. The one thing they have in common is that they’re all heroes!

Please watch Caroline explain why she volunteers for the service

We are currently looking for volunteers to help run our Winter Night Shelter in the following roles:

Ideally volunteers will be able to do a minimum of once a fortnight.

BREAKFAST TEAMS

Breakfast volunteers help our guests get ready for the day ahead and will be helping to ensure they start their day in the best possible way.

We need people to help prepare a simple breakfast for the guests, interacting with guests and helping them pack their belongings and prepare for departure (at 10am).

Breakfast Team volunteers will be required from 7am – 10am.

COOK TEAMS

Cook team volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring that guests receive nutritious and tasty meals. We will be providing meals for 5-7 people.

We are looking for people who will be able to help us with the following:

Cooking: Preparing and cooking meals for guests according to the planned menu, ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are met.

Meal planning: Working with shelter staff to create balanced and nutritious menus that cater to the dietary needs and preferences of the guests.

Cook Team volunteers will be required from 6pm – 9pm.

SLEEPOVER VOLUNTEERS

Sleepover volunteers make sure that our guests feel safe overnight when sleeping in the shelter.

They will need to:

+ Welcome guests, check them in, and ensure they understand the shelter’s rules and policies.

+ Help guests complete any necessary registration forms and distribute any relevant information or materials.

+ Ensure the dining area is clean and set up for meals

+ Ability to engage and communicate with guests during the shared meal.

+ Monitor the well-being of guests, paying particular attention to those who may have health issues or specific needs.

+ Be present throughout the night to ensure the security of guests and the facility.

Sleepover volunteers will be required from 7pm – 7am.

In addition to the Winter Night Shelter, from time to time we look for volunteers to support our Advice Service, as hosts or supporting our Charity in other ways. Please note we are not currently recruiting volunteer advisers.

Unfortunately we are unable to accept applications from anyone who is resident outside of the U.K

We’d also recommend that you read our Safeguarding Policy before registering. It’s really important that all our volunteers understand and follow our safeguarding policy, so that we can keep everyone safe.

Host. If you have a spare room and would like to know more about hosting someone who needs a home then please click here.

DonateWe’re a small charity, and we rely on the donations of our supporters to survive. It’s easy to donate, just click here.

If you can make a regular donation that would be amazing. You can cancel your donation at any time, but even donating just a few pounds a month will make a huge difference to the people we support. One-off donations are brilliant, but regular donations mean we can plan what services we can provide next month and the month after, knowing that you’ll be supporting us whilst we’re supporting those who desperately need our help.

Alternatively, if you’d prefer to donate by cheque, you can send cheques to us at 20 Widmore Road, Bromley, BR1 1RY, made out to ‘Bromley Homeless’. If you donate this way please consider completing a Gift Aid Form as well so we can claim gift aid on your donation.

Leave a Legacy.

We would be extremely grateful if you’d consider leaving a gift to Bromley Homeless in your Will. You will be leaving a lasting legacy that will improve other people’s lives immeasurably.

When making, or updating, your Will please include our full name, address and registered charity number:

For more information on how your donation may also be exempt from inheritance tax or reduce the inheritance tax payable on your estate click here.
