For this very popular play and film we go back to 1980s America. The play was written by Robert Harling in memory of his sister, Susanne, who had diabetes and is embodied in the play by Shelby, the young woman whose hopes permeate the play.

The six female characters share their life experiences, and gain strength and courage from their friends and family, the play tells us something of the life in Chinquapin parish, Louisiana, a small Southern town with people of big heart.

Truvy owns the salon where the women congregate to get their hair and beauty done. M’Lynn’s daughter Shelby is engaged to the town hunk and is a figure of envy. Annelle is a young woman on a journey to discover herself.  Ouiser is wealthy and bitter and Clairee is important and wealthy, these two are the seam of sour that counters all that is sweet amongst the women.  They are all strong women who represent the female spirit found in any village or small town and are the backbone of life.

There will be times of trial and achievement, all is handled with deft comedy and warmth as the ladies handle their business with joy and a love of life.
