Our Autumn Newsletter!

Hello Bromley Homeless community!

We’ve been so busy getting the new shelter ready we’ve almost forgotten to send out the newsletter!

We’ve highlights a plenty, with our sleepout, the new shelter, our new Chaplain Martyn Travers and an appeal for volunteers.

We’re also looking for a runner to run the London Marathon 2025 to raise funds for us.  More details below, but we always need more funds, we desperately need regular donors.

Please visit our website and donate:

The New Shelter

We’re about to open our new emergency shelter which will be a game changer for the service.  With five ensuite bedrooms, a kitchen and a volunteer room, we’re busy getting things ready for the first arrivals.  We’ve done a sneak peek of one of the rooms! We’ll be opening soon and we’ll be thrilled when we can change this:

to this wonderfully clean and warm ensuite room:

👍👍Thanks especially to:👏👏

Adam at City Flooring Europe Ltd – Flooring solutions for domestic & contract – the complete carpet service for their amazing donation of the new flooring at the shelter

and also the Trussell Trust (Ending hunger together | Trussell) for supporting the Shelter and the United Reformed Church for their ongoing partnership.❤️

Marathon Entry

We have a single marathon entry for the London Marathon on the 27th April 2025 and we’re looking for a runner to represent us and to raise as much as possible!

If you think this could be you, please drop an email with your details and why you would want to support us on events@bromleyhomeless.org 🏃‍♂️🏃🏿‍♂️🏃🏿‍♀️

Fundraising in the rain!

Thanks to the volunteers braving the wind and rain at the Hayes Christmas lights.  It was a tough gig but our legendary raffle raised £300+ despite the terrible weather.

We were shortlisted for an award!

We are thrilled to announce that we were finalists at this year’s ABBBAs!

Although we didn’t take home the win, being recognised among such fierce competition is an incredible honour.

We had an amazing evening and are so proud of our team’s hard work and dedication. Our certificate is proudly displayed in our day centre, and the photo shows our proud volunteers, Dean and Emma at the awards evening.

Our Sleep Out was a success!

On the 2nd of November, we hosted another successful Sleep Out at the Bromley Parish Church and was well attended by over 60 people. There was great music and Tamasha restaurant Indian Fine Dining | Tamasha Hotel & Restaurant | Bromley donated an excellent curry.

Talks from the Mayor of Bromley, from a young person who had used the Bromley Homeless Service, and a Volunteer were highlights.

For those wishing to attend, there was a short service in the church, after which 15 people ventured outside into the night.  Everyone appreciated the better weather compared to last year, (it couldn’t have been worse than last year) and we all found our space to sleep, to try to sleep, to think or to listen … probably a mixture of all 4.

The morning light was welcomed by all as was the post sleep chat, fuelled by a bacon roll and cup of tea.

Some people have questioned why do we do this in winter. It’s about the challenge and facing the challenge – a challenge that many people have no choice about.

By raising money to support the service, Bromley Homeless can continue to support homeless people in Bromley, to help them through such difficult times and access a safe place for them for their future. This year we raised over £10,000 pounds from the sponsorship,  the meal and the raffle. This will go towards providing a much needed service to society and Homeless people in Bromley.

Other fundraising heroes

We are very lucky to have such dedicated supporters. Here are some of the incredible things that people in the Bromley community have done for us lately:

Steve Sutton who raised the majority of £1,100 at Millwall FC. ⚽

10 year old Toby (the Tobysaurus) who cycled 47km and raised £1,340 !!!!🚴🚴

we also had Dangermouse run 10km….🐭🐁

Meet Martyn Travers our Chaplain

Martyn (Rev Martyn Travers) is our first ever Chaplain for the Bromley Homeless Charity. After 41 years of being an Ordained Baptist Minister he finally retired in June this year from Orpington Baptist Church. Martyn had been a friend and supporter of Bromley Homeless for some years and he’s excited to become part of the team. He looks to offer pastoral care to anyone who might need it and to be an ambassador of our vision to the Christian community.

Celebrate Christmas with us!

As the cold winter nights become harsh, our clients need our support more than ever. So we have several fundraising events coming up before Christmas which you are more than welcome to support!

We are taking part in the Rotary Club sleigh collections on the 16th December so we will perhaps see you out on the streets of Bromley!

We have a stall at the Foxgrove Primary Academy Christmas Fair on the 7th December, please join us.
